In the Bible "Messiah" (Hebrew "mashiach," meaning "anointed one") is a title; John's Gospel translates the term explicitly in the account of Andrew bringing his brother Simon to Jesus.
John 1:41 in the King James Version reads:
He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
The verse appears in John 1, in the account of Jesus' first disciples. Read it in context at John 1:41, or the full chapter at John 1. Encyclopedia entry: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messiah.
