In the Bible the tabernacle is a portable tent-sanctuary that Israel builds in the wilderness according to the pattern God gives Moses in Exodus 25-31.

Exodus 25:8-9 in the King James Version reads:

8 And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. 9 According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

These verses open the instructions for the tabernacle in Exodus 25. Read it in context at Exodus 25:8-9, or the full chapter at Exodus 25. Encyclopedia entry: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabernacle.
