Who was Absalom in the Bible?

Absalom was the third son of King David; 2 Samuel records his revolt against his father and his death when his hair caught in an oak tree during his flight from battle.

2 Samuel 14:25 in the King James Version reads:

But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.
